Celebration

City of Alamogordo issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.

The City of Alamogordo would like to recognize and thank, Alamogordo Chief of Police, Richard Denton for 20 years of service to our community.

"The City of Alamogordo and the Alamogordo Police Department are fortunate to have a leader who is as accomplished and professional as Chief Denton. After serving over 20 years in the Alamogordo Police Department, he is easily at home in the role of Chief, as he considers and cares for both the needs of the citizens and his officers. The City is so proud to call Richard Denton our Chief of Police. Thank you for your 20 years of service," said Alamogordo City Manager Brian Cesar.

Chief Denton began his career with the Department of Public Safety on July 24, 2000, which included fire and police services. He has assisted all units in the department, but his primary focus has always been patrol. "I have always felt that is where I best served my community," said Denton.

Chief Denton recently completed an intense 22 week training with Northwestern University, which prepares law enforcement managers for their positions by combining academic principles with practical applications. It focuses on leadership, media relations, budgeting, contemporary policing, decision making, problem solving, executive image, traffic, statistics, planning and policies among several other topics.

"I have had the honor and privilege of working along side Chief Denton since 2006. Chief Denton, as my primary Field Training Officer and now as the Chief of Police, has continually demanded a high level of professionalism and accountability. I believe Chief Denton is an asset and blessing to the Alamogordo Police Department," said David Kunihiro, Alamogordo Deputy Chief of Police

“I look forward to continuing to serve my community and lead the police department in a positive direction,” said Denton. On behalf of the City of Alamogordo, thank you for your commitment to our community and congratulations on 20 years of dedicated service.
