Each year, the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services partners with the Santa Fe National Cemetery to bury New Mexico unclaimed Veterans in Santa Fe. At this year’s National Cemetery event on Thursday, September 29 at 11 a.m., there will be three decedents from Doña Ana County included:
• Brown Hoff, Yvonne Renee (Army) 07/13/1957-10/03/2021

• Mockbee, John Cameron (Air Force) 09/05/1950-07/09/2019
Under state statute Chapter 24, Article 13 NMSA 1978, it is Doña Ana County's responsibility to decently inter or cremate the body of any unclaimed decedent or indigent person. For civilians, Doña Ana County provides a final burial for unclaimed cremains through a memorial service. The public burials are held annually at a local cemetery. The public is welcome to attend.
Cremains can be claimed by family or friends for a fee of $600, which covers the cremation costs. For more information, please call 575-525-5866.
