KRWG wins New Mexico Press Women awards, advances to national contest

KRWG Public Media staff has been recognized for their exceptional work at the 2024 New Mexico Press Women (NMPW) Conference, with nearly two dozen awards received. The team's achievements have earned them a spot in the national contest, with eight first-place winners set to compete at the national level.

Adrian Velarde, KRWG general manager, expressed his pride in the team's accomplishments, stating, "These awards are a testament to our content team's dedication, talent, and commitment to producing high-quality, impactful content for the entire region."

Among the first-place winners heading to the national contest are Jonny Coker, K.C. Counts, Angelina Malone, Anthony Moreno, Noah Raess, Evelyn Sandoval, Christian Valle, and Leora Zeitlin. The National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) will announce the national winners at their conference in June in St. Louis.

KRWG's success at the conference extended across various categories, including radio, television, digital, and student reporting. Valle, KRWG television production manager, was recognized for his work on the documentary "Clara Belle Williams: New Mexico Pioneer in Education." Counts, host of "Morning Edition," received awards for her radio newscast and hosting a call-in program on immigrant advocacy. Coker, a multimedia journalist, was awarded for his coverage of the humanitarian crisis at the border.

In addition to individual awards, KRWG Public Media was also honored as an organization, further highlighting the team's collective strength and dedication to excellence in journalism.

KRWG Public Media's commitment to serving the community through quality news reporting and engaging content has been a cornerstone of their mission since the establishment of KRWG-FM in 1964 and KRWG-TV in 1973. The station aims to educate and engage in community development while preserving and conveying human and natural history.

The team at KRWG Public Media continues to make significant contributions to the field of journalism, showcasing their talent and dedication to delivering impactful storytelling and news coverage to the region.
