Construction projects at three schools in the Las Cruces Public School district will affect traffic this week as students return to school.
Hillrise Elementary School is nearing completion of a new multipurpose kitchen and cafeteria renovation. On the first day, parents will find a temporary secured entrance near Curnutt Street.
Lynn Community Middle School is upgrading its heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, along with constructing a secure vestibule and improving lighting. The student drop-off and pickup area will temporarily move to the northwest side off Nevada Avenue. Staff will escort bus riders and walking students through a gated area on the southeast side. A designated drop-off and pickup spot for low incidence students is near the cafeteria. Traffic won't be allowed in front of the building.
Desert Hills Elementary has undergone extensive renovations including its cafeteria, a new multipurpose room, kitchen, and secured vestibule at the main entrance. Parents will park at Roadrunner Storage south of the school for drop-offs and pickups. Bus transportation, DD-preschool, New Mexico Pre-K, and daycare transport can use lanes directly in front of the school.
Motorists are reminded to observe speed limits, slow down in school zones, and watch for pedestrians around crosswalks.
