The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has recognized the City of Las Cruces Financial Services Department with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year starting July 1, 2024. This award program was initiated in 1984 to promote high-quality budget documents that adhere to guidelines set by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and GFOA's best practices.
Approximately 1,800 governments, including states, cities, counties, special districts, and school districts have been acknowledged for their transparency in budgeting. To qualify for this recognition, budget documents must meet specific criteria and serve effectively as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.
