The City of Las Cruces is currently seeking applicants to join the Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority Commission. This commission is a five-member board that plays a crucial role in deciding on matters such as annual budgets, federally mandated planning documents, policy documents, tax-credit developments, and the annual performance evaluation of the Housing Authority’s executive director.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must reside within the City of Las Cruces. The terms for commission members last five years and are staggered to ensure continuity.

The Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority (MVPHA) Commission operates as an independent public agency providing affordable housing and related services within the City of Las Cruces and unincorporated areas of Doña Ana County. However, it does not operate in regions where there is already an established housing authority or agency. The commission comprises two appointees from the Doña Ana Board of County Commissioners, two appointees from the Mayor of Las Cruces, and a Resident Commissioner appointed jointly by both the Mayor and the County Commission.

Meetings for the MVPHA Commission are generally held every third Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m., lasting approximately 90 minutes. These meetings take place at the Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority located at 926 S. San Pedro Street in Las Cruces.

Applications for interested candidates can be submitted online.
