Las Cruces police have taken Saul Camarena into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of Justin Griffin on Lynch Drive. The arrest occurred around 2 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, after authorities located Camarena at a residence on the city's East Mesa. He faces an open count of murder and will be held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday evening, February 26, when police and fire services responded to reports of a gunshot victim on the 2100 block of Lynch Drive. Upon arrival, first responders found Griffin unresponsive on the roadway with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities suspect that an altercation between Camarena and Griffin led to the shooting.
