The City of Las Cruces has issued a reminder to short-term rental property owners regarding their obligation to pay the lodgers tax. This tax, which stands at 5% of occupancy revenues, applies to lodging establishments and is intended for advertising, publicizing, and promoting the city. Additionally, it supports recreational and tourist facilities.

Short-term rentals became liable for this tax starting January 1, 2020. Properties rented through platforms such as Airbnb and Vrbo are included in this requirement. Owners must register online at lascrucesnm-self.govplatform.com by answering questions about their property and paying a $50 registration fee.

Once registered, taxes must be paid via the same platform by the 25th of each month for the previous month's earnings. If no rental activity occurred in the prior month, owners must report a $0 amount by the deadline. These properties are exempt from paying the convention center fee.

For more details, inquiries can be directed to LasCruces.gov/ShortTermRental.
