Las Cruces firefighters were kept busy over a 16-hour period, tackling four separate fires. The first incident occurred at around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, when crews responded to a commercial structure fire on the 1700 block of North Valley Drive. Firefighters found heavy smoke emanating from the building and identified the fire's source in the attic space. They managed to contain it to a small section of the building within 20 minutes.

Later that day, shortly after 5 p.m., firefighters attended to a residential structure fire on the 1900 block of Coleen Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a storage shed and other items ablaze in the backyard. This fire was also contained quickly.

Another call came in just after 7 p.m., reporting a brush fire near Elks Drive and Desert Bloom Drive. As crews worked to prevent the flames from reaching two nearby homes, Elks Drive was temporarily closed for about an hour.

The final incident took place early Thursday morning at approximately 4:50 a.m., when firefighters were dispatched to another residential structure fire on the 1500 block of North Mesquite Street. Fire suppression efforts were initiated promptly, and the blaze was confined to one room within five minutes.

Fire investigators are currently working to determine the causes of all four fires. Damage estimates for the three structure fires have not yet been released.
