Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) is providing additional support and counseling resources after a fatal shooting on March 21, which involved current and former students of the district. The incident at Young Park in Las Cruces resulted in the death of a Centennial High School student and injuries to several others, including LCPS students.
Throughout the weekend, LCPS administration collaborated with local mental health agencies to ensure extra support was available at all school campuses by Monday morning. On Saturday, the district informed staff about these resources.
“We are deeply saddened at this news and offer our condolences to all the families impacted by this senseless tragedy,” said LCPS Superintendent Ignacio Ruiz. “The events that unfolded over the weekend are difficult to understand, especially for our young people.
