Las Cruces police have announced plans to conduct at least one sobriety checkpoint within the city limits during April. The aim of these checkpoints is to reduce and eliminate the number of drivers who are intoxicated or impaired.

The police department is encouraging individuals who plan to consume alcohol to use either a ride-share service or a designated driver who will not be drinking.

Besides looking for intoxicated drivers, officers will also be vigilant for other traffic safety violations. These include drivers using cell phones and those who fail to use seatbelts and child safety seats properly.
