When the road surface warms up, and snow blows across it - blow ice develops. A recent example was March 29th. Air temperatures in the morning were -10, while the road surface temp was 29.
The best way to get rid of blow ice is the sun.
The sun's heat will melt the ice. In the meantime, we all need to be patient and drive slow. Patches of ice can be dangerous, so all drivers have to be aware of the road condition and drive appropriately.
As long as the wind is blowing, the Highway Department does not treat the blow ice on the roads. The elements will continue to melt and refreeze causing the blow ice to build up more. Let's all do our part to be safe on the roads as the winter season persists. #safetyfirst
