The University Art Museum at New Mexico State University is gearing up to showcase the talent of its students in the upcoming Juried Student Show, which will feature more than 30 works from various student artists. This year's juror, El Paso-born artist Celia Álvarez Muñoz, carefully selected 32 works from 28 different NMSU students for the exhibition.
Speaking about the selection process, Álvarez Muñoz expressed her pleasure in seeing a diverse range of thought-provoking statements translated into strong works of art in various mediums by NMSU students. She emphasized the importance of incorporating alternative ways of thinking and seeing in the creation of art.
The Juried Student Show will kick off with an opening reception on March 22, followed by an award ceremony at Devasthali Hall. The exhibition will be open to the public from March 22 through April 20, providing an opportunity for the community to appreciate the creativity and talent of young artists in the region.
Jasmine Herrera, the museum coordinator, highlighted the inclusive nature of the exhibition, welcoming submissions from students across different majors, not just limited to art students. Herrera emphasized the importance of providing all students with a platform to express their creativity, regardless of their chosen field of study.
Herrera further explained that the Juried Student Show serves as a valuable opportunity for young artists to gain professional practice knowledge in areas such as contracts, installation, pricing, and programming. The exhibition not only showcases the artistic abilities of the students but also helps them explore different career paths and possibilities.
The University Art Museum aims to bring the community together through culturally relevant art and to offer enriching experiences for young artists in the region. The exhibition serves as a significant milestone for many college artists, providing them with their first opportunity to exhibit their work at a professional level.
For more information about the selected student works and the exhibition, interested individuals can visit the University Art Museum's website. The museum, located inside Devasthali Hall, is open from Tuesday through Saturday, offering a chance for art enthusiasts to engage with the diverse and inspiring works created by NMSU students.
