Las Cruces City Council members convened on December 16, 2024, to approve partial funding for the Paseos Verdes housing development. This low-income housing project will be located near Colorado Avenue and South Campo Street.
Paseos Verdes is set to be a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit multi-family affordable housing development at 905 S. Campo St. The development will cover 7.22 acres and include 218 energy-efficient units aimed at veterans, seniors, and the local workforce. Construction of the first phase, comprising 80 units on the west end of the property, is expected to begin in January 2026.
The total estimated cost for this development is $22.17 million. Funding sources include low-income Housing Tax Credits, National Housing Trust funds, and local contributions such as $2.2 million from Community Project Funding and $1.35 million from the City of Las Cruces.
The council's resolution commits $1.35 million from the city towards the project, including impact fee waivers. Specific loan terms and funding sources will be finalized later.
Additionally, councilors accepted two grants during their meeting: a Byrne Memorial Grant Award from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety amounting to $92,100 for purchasing modular surveillance systems for the Las Cruces Police Department; and another grant totaling $104,376 from the New Mexico Department of Transportation to support Mesilla Valley Metropolitan Planning Organizations with various expenses.
