The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) celebrated the graduation of six cadets from its 54th Academy on Friday, December 20. The new graduates are Vincent Montoya, Viridiana Porras, Juan Prieto, Alan Ramirez, Eric Reynolds, and Jannette Soto.

Vincent Montoya will join the New Mexico State University Police Department. The other five graduates will start as officer-trainees with LCPD. These trainees will be paired with experienced field training officers for an additional 14 weeks to gain practical experience across all three patrol shifts.

The training provided by LCPD exceeds the standards set by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. Their state-certified academy lasts 24 weeks and includes 1,164 accredited hours of law enforcement education and training. Approximately 60 percent of this program is classroom-based instruction while the remainder involves field training in Las Cruces.

All cadets successfully passed comprehensive exams qualifying them for New Mexico peace officer certification.

Looking ahead, LCPD plans to commence its 55th Academy in spring 2025. Those interested in learning more about the academy can visit www.CLCPD.com.
