The City of Las Cruces Utilities Department is set to introduce a new latch for trash carts. This initiative will roll out over the next 18 months, starting in 2025, with the timeline varying based on service routes.

Residents seeking more information about these latches can visit LasCruces.Gov/Latches.

In other developments, the City of Las Cruces is planning to revitalize neighborhoods around El Paseo and S Solano corridors between Lohman and University Avenues. Additionally, Las Cruces Public Libraries will host poetry discussions and crafting sessions titled "Palabras y Artesanias (Words and Crafts)," beginning with "Ancestry and Identity" at 4 PM.

The Citizens Police Academy offers a free four-week program introducing community members to the Las Cruces Police Department, with the next class scheduled soon. Spring 2025 openings are available at Alameda, Cesar Chavez/Sunrise, Jornada, and Loma Heights for $100 per semester, with payment plans available.

Residents curious about city operations such as traffic light control or ballfield maintenance have opportunities to learn more through various city programs. The city also supports career development through workforce programs offering skills training and job placement assistance.

The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled from 6-8 PM on December 7, 2024, at Plaza de Las Cruces. Residents are encouraged to schedule their Pilot Relight and Safety Check early to avoid long wait times as colder weather approaches.

Lastly, a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful program will be held inside the Triviz/I-25 tunnel to unveil a completed mural.
