New Mexico State University's Asian Pacific Islander Program is set to host a Lunar New Year celebration on January 29. The event, which includes a special lunch, will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Corbett Center Student Union ballrooms.
Lunar New Year holds significant cultural importance across Asia, with each year linked to one of the 12 zodiac animals and one of the five elements. This year is designated as the Year of the Snake, specifically the Wood Snake.
"Lunar New Year is a time for family, reflection and celebration," stated Yi Wu, president of the Chinese Student and Scholar Association at NMSU. "It marks a fresh beginning filled with hope, joy and prosperity."
The celebration offers an opportunity for the NMSU community to come together, honor cultural traditions, and reflect on family, friends, and ancestry. "We wish everyone a happy and prosperous Year of the Snake," Wu added.
The event is open to all current students, faculty, and staff at NMSU free of charge. It will feature food and activities available while supplies last.
