Girls Can! is an event designed to provide career exploration opportunities for sixth-grade girls in the Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) district. Scheduled for March 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., it will be held at the Dona Ana Community College (DACC) East Mesa Campus.
The program includes three 50-minute workshops led by local professional women, covering various fields such as arts, medicine, science, and business. Each participant will receive a backpack containing a Girls Can! T-shirt and other items. "THERE IS NO COST TO LCPS GIRLS. The $5 tuition is being covered," organizers have confirmed.
Transportation arrangements will be made by LCPS if necessary, with breakfast provided for all attendees. Registration must be completed online by February 14 through links available in both English and Spanish.
Concurrent with the event for girls, DACC offers a program for parents and guardians at no charge. Topics include cyber-bullying prevention and education planning after high school. Parents can also learn about DACC programs available to them.
School personnel are invited to attend the event without cost and may participate in any workshops offered.
