Local artist Virginia Maria Romero has been chosen to design the poster for the 2025 Las Cruces International Film Festival (LCIFF). The artwork, intended to capture the essence of the festival, will be unveiled at a poster party in March ahead of the five-day event in April.
The reveal event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. Tickets are priced at $30 and include a signed collectible poster, food, drinks (beer and wine), and music. The original artwork will be auctioned during the event. Romero will also sign limited-edition prints. Discounted VIP tickets for the film festival will be available exclusively at this event for $150, offering a savings of $50.
The LCIFF, now in its tenth year, runs from April 9-13 and is supported by New Mexico State University and Visit Las Cruces.
Romero's work has been recognized globally and she is among a few non-Hispanic artists skilled in traditional New Mexican santero techniques. Originally from Ohio, Romero has resided in New Mexico since 1982 and moved to Las Cruces from Santa Fe in the 1990s. In 2013, she was honored as a distinguished artist and poet by the American Council for Polish Culture.
“Romero is a visionary artist. I know her piece for the Las Cruces International Film Festival will be amazing,” stated LCIFF Executive Director Ross Marks, who is also an NMSU Creative Media Institute professor. “I encourage everyone to join us for the poster reveal party.”
Romero’s professional works are part of the NMSU Library Archives and Special Collections within the Rio Grande Historical Collections Repository.
The festival will take place at Allen Theatres Cineport 10 with various ticket options: VIP passes at $200, All-Access Passes at $100, Day Passes at $35, and celebrity screening admissions also at $35. Tickets can be purchased online at www.lascrucesfilmfest.com.
Ross Marks founded LCIFF ten years ago alongside teaching an NMSU class on film festival production. His students gain practical experience each year by assisting with organizing LCIFF. The event attracts over 12,000 attendees annually with more than 80,000 visitors coming to the region.
