Two renowned chefs, Marie Yniguez and Mike White, will be the special guests at a dinner fundraiser organized by New Mexico State University's School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM). The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, at NMSU’s Corbett Center Student Union on the Las Cruces Campus. The dinner will feature a menu crafted by the chefs, with wines paired for each course.

In addition to Yniguez and White, Chef Jon Young from At Last Farm in Corrales, New Mexico, will make a special appearance. NMSU alumnus and mixologist Patrick Abalos will provide specialty cocktails during the welcoming reception at 5:30 p.m. A silent auction is also planned as part of the evening's activities.

Jean Hertzman, HRTM Director, expressed enthusiasm about the event: “HRTM is thrilled to bring such high-caliber chefs to provide such a one-of-a-kind experience for our loyal supporters. It will be our largest event of the year. All proceeds benefit scholarships, travel, professional development and other program activities for our wonderful HRTM students.”

Marie Yniguez owns two Albuquerque restaurants—My Mom’s and Smoking Fred’s ’46—and has appeared on Food Network shows like “Chopped” and “Dinner, Drive-Ins and Dives.” She was also a 2022 semifinalist for best chef in the Southwest by the James Beard Foundation.

Mike White founded High Point Grill and Taproom in Albuquerque and directs two charities: 505 Food and Bar Fights and The Kitchen Kids Inc. His accolades include awards from organizations like the New Mexico Restaurant Association and Edible New Mexico. He has been featured on Food Network shows “Supermarket Stakeout” and “Guy’s Grocery Games.”

The event is coordinated by students from HRTM 4110-Meetings, Convention and Special Events class with assistance from HRTM chef-instructor Danielle Young. Sodexo sponsors it. Tickets are priced at $125 per person and can be purchased online or in person at the HRTM offices through Andres Sanchez at 575-646-7324.
