Nusenda Credit Union's Chief Financial Officer, Adam Heying, is scheduled to deliver a Distinguished Lecture at New Mexico State University (NMSU) on April 16. Heying credits the NMSU College of Business with playing a significant role in shaping his career in finance.
“I owe my interest in financial markets and my overall career trajectory to the College of Business professors at NMSU, especially those in the Finance Department,” Heying stated. “Not only did they prepare me from a financial acumen and technical ability standpoint, but their real-world experience helped shape my overall perspective of what work life would be like in the industry after graduating.”
Heying will address the audience as part of the Nusenda Center for Financial Capability Distinguished Lecture Series at 6 p.m. at Domenici Hall, Room 109. The event is co-sponsored by Nusenda Credit Union, NMSU’s College of Business, and the Nusenda Fintech Lab. The lecture series aims to enhance financial literacy and provide an educational experience to NMSU and the wider Las Cruces community. Registration is available online at CrimsonConnection.nmsu.edu.
In his presentation, “Breaking down the economy: a CFO’s 25-chart crash course,” Heying will explore the numbers and trends behind financial headlines. Discussing his approach, Heying said, “My hope is the attendees see that economic data can be presented in a way that’s interesting and visually tells a story of what’s happening around them. I also hope it helps them better understand what’s happening in the real-world today from the perspective of a CFO and how I use these trends as a part of my overall toolkit to help make decisions that greatly impact our company and the financial lives of our members.”
Having joined Nusenda Credit Union in 2018, Heying previously obtained his bachelor’s degree in finance from NMSU in 2006 and later completed his MBA at the University of New Mexico in 2010.
Marci Salinas-Milam, NMSU Academic Success Center program director, remarked, “NMSU alumni like Adam returning to campus to share their stories and success have a profound impact on both our current students and for our institution. From inspiring our students to be the next CFO, providing real-world perspective to strengthening our alumni network; this is a perfect example of Aggies using their platform to give back to NMSU."
The Nusenda Center for Financial Capability, overseen by NMSU and sponsored by Nusenda Credit Union, serves as a financial outreach and educational program. It assists NMSU students in becoming financially successful.
