New Mexico State University's Chile Pepper Institute is set to host its annual spring plant sale on April 10-11. The event will take place at the Fabián García Science Center, located at 113 W. University Ave., commencing at 8 a.m. each day.
Attendees can anticipate a selection of chiles, tomatoes, and marigolds, alongside zinnias, coreopsis, and petunias, all cultivated by staff from the Chile Pepper Institute and NMSU students. The sale will offer tomato varieties such as "Celebrity," "Bush Beefsteak," and "Early Girl," as well as chile varieties including "NuMex Heritage Big Jim," "NuMex Joe E. Parker," jalapeños, bell peppers, and various super-hot peppers like the "Trinidad Moruga Scorpion."
Due to road construction on West University Avenue, which will be reduced to a single west-bound lane starting Wednesday, April 9, customers are advised to enter through the back entrance at 500 W. College Ave. This location is close to Pastaggio’s Italian Restaurant.
During the plant sale, the Chile Pepper Institute headquarters and gift shop will be open, providing an opportunity for visitors to buy seeds and access gardening and chile-growing resources.
The proceeds from the sale will support chile pepper research and education at NMSU. For further details, interested parties can call 575-646-3028 or email cpi@nmsu.edu.
