The Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation (LCPSF) is inviting public nominations for a new award aimed at recognizing outstanding contributions by LCPS employees. The initiative, known as the LCPSF Standing Ovation Award, seeks to honor those who foster an environment conducive to student and staff success.
Leanna Lucero, an associate professor at the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation, specializes in teacher education and queer theory in education. She currently serves as the interim director of the School of Teacher Preparation, Administration and Leadership and was previously the clinical director of the Elementary Teacher Education Program.

Las Cruces Utilities has introduced a new solid waste mini-truck named Little Grabby, following a naming competition held in April 2024. The competition took place at the City’s Weed and Seed Program, located at the A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven facility on N. Tornillo Street. The mini-truck is designed to navigate narrow streets in older neighborhoods where larger trash collection vehicles face challenges.
The Anna, Age Eight Institute, part of the Department of Extension Family and Consumer Sciences at New Mexico State University (NMSU), has received a nomination for a Rocky Mountain Emmy Award. The documentary titled “On the Road to 100% Chaves” was nominated in the category “Special Concerns Content.” The award ceremony is scheduled for November 16 in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Las Cruces Police Department is organizing two Shopping Cart Collection Initiatives at different locations on October 10 and October 15. This initiative allows individuals to return shopping carts without facing any penalties. Officers will accept the carts without taking any enforcement action.
