The Las Cruces Police Department is organizing two Shopping Cart Collection Initiatives at different locations on October 10 and October 15. This initiative allows individuals to return shopping carts without facing any penalties. Officers will accept the carts without taking any enforcement action.

After collecting the carts, police will contact the businesses that own them for retrieval.

The collection sites are:

- Community of Hope, 999 W. Amador Ave.

- Parking Lot, 2200 block of east Lohman Avenue near south Walnut Street.

Officers will be present at both sites from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, and Tuesday, October 15. Carts can be returned at either site on either day.

This initiative precedes the enforcement of a new Shopping Cart Ordinance starting on October 16, adopted by City Council in August. The Las Cruces Police Department delayed enforcement until October 16 to educate the public about the new regulation and facilitate the return of carts in possession of community members.
