Most City of Las Cruces offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, 2024, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Essential services such as police and fire departments will continue to operate without interruption.
Several city facilities will not be operational during these days. These include A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven, Youth Development & Diversion Learning Center, Castaneda Service Center (Parks & Recreation Administration Offices), City Hall, East Mesa Recreation Center, South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices, Foothills Landfill, Amador Transfer Station at 2885 W. Amador Ave., Corralitos Landfill, Doña Ana County solid waste collection sites, Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, Las Cruces Museum System including Branigan Cultural Center and others, Las Cruces Public Libraries including Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and branch libraries at Munson Center and Sage Café. Additionally, the Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center and Rio Grande Theatre will also be closed.
Roadrunner Transit services will not run on Thanksgiving Day. All Senior Programs facilities and services along with Visit Las Cruces will also remain closed for both days.
Some services have adjusted schedules. Curbside recycling collection scheduled for Thursday will take place on Friday instead. The Foothills Landfill will open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday following the holiday weekend. RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-A-Ride are set to operate on a Saturday service level from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
City Solid Waste Residential Collection and Grappler Collections through Wednesday before Thanksgiving will proceed as usual; however, there will be no residential solid waste collection on Thanksgiving Day itself. Both Thursday's and Friday's collections are rescheduled for Friday with any incomplete routes being finished by Saturday morning starting at 6 a.m.
Commercial waste collection has been revised: Monday’s collections are moved to Sunday before Thanksgiving; Tuesday’s collections shift to Monday; Wednesday’s move to Tuesday; Thursday’s collections advance to Wednesday; while Friday and Saturday collections maintain their regular schedule.
The Meerscheidt Recreation Center is set to open from 1-5 p.m., while the Las Cruces Natatorium opens from 7:30 a.m. until noon on Friday after Thanksgiving.
The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is planned for December 7 at Plaza de Las Cruces between 6-8 p.m., offering residents an opportunity to gather downtown.
