From December 2, 2022 post.
One of the services provided by the Doña Ana County Health & Human Services Department is coordinating proper burials for indigent and unclaimed remains of county residents who are deceased.
Earlier this year, the program assistant, Stephanie Barrera (pictured front, center) identified six veteran decedents that may be eligible to receive the burial benefit at a National Veterans Cemetery provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Because of Stephanie's dedication, three of these decedents will be included in the 2023 Forgotten Heroes Funeral in Santa Fe, and three more are pending verification status.
The Doña Ana Board of County Commissioners, County Management, and Stephanie's supervisors presented her with a letter of commendation last week for her commitment to honorably serve the residents and Veterans of Doña Ana County. Thank you, Stephanie!
