A Las Cruces Public Schools leader, Joshua Silver, has been honored in the national 2024 EdTech Awards for his exceptional work in education technology. Silver, the Chief Technology Officer of LCPS, was named a finalist in two categories: The EdTech Leadership Award and the EdTech Trendsetter Award. The prestigious announcement was made to a global audience of educators, technologists, students, parents, and policymakers dedicated to advancing education and the workforce through technology.
The EdTech Awards, now in its 14th year, is renowned as the largest recognition program for education technology, acknowledging individuals for their remarkable contributions in revolutionizing education through technology to enhance the lives of learners worldwide. The awards spotlight outstanding tools, visionary leaders, and innovative trendsetters across various sectors including K-12, higher education, skills, and the workforce.
Silver's impactful initiatives over the past four years include establishing a student technician program within LCPS. This program offers students the opportunity to intern with the LCPS team, equipping them with valuable skills for their future endeavors. Speaking about his vision, Silver stated, "I hope to build on a technology pipeline for our students and continue to provide workplace opportunities. This is a model that I would love to see other districts adopt."
In addition to his work with the student technician program, Silver organized Impact 24, a regional technology conference open to all educators in southern New Mexico. He is also credited with creating the Tell the Story Film Showcase, one of the state's few film festivals highlighting student-produced films. The festival recently completed its second successful year, featuring over 200 submitted student films.
Before leading the technology team, Silver held various roles within the education sector, including Director of Online Teaching and Learning, Dean of Students at Arrowhead Park Early College High School, and teaching English and Media. With over 21 years of experience within the district, Silver was recognized as the LCPS Teacher of the Year in 2014.
Silver's dedication to advancing technology in education and providing students with valuable opportunities has not gone unnoticed, earning him well-deserved recognition in the national EdTech Awards.
