Griggs Walnut groundwater plume open house set for September

The City of Las Cruces invites the public to attend the Griggs Walnut Ground Water Plume Superfund Open House. The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 153 N. Cottonwood St., near the intersection of Griggs Avenue and Walnut Street.

Scrubbers are being used to remove PCE from water at the Superfund site. More information on the Griggs and Walnut Ground Water Plume Superfund can be found at: https://www.donaanacounty.org/departments/administration/legal-risk-department/superfund-site.

In related community news, residents are encouraged to share their vision for University Avenue as part of a corridor study conducted by the City, covering the stretch from I-10 to I-25. Additionally, a multi-day workshop will be held to envision the future of the El Paseo and S. Solano MRA area.

The City of Las Cruces Housing & Neighborhood Services section has prepared a report on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) activities.

High school students interested in learning about city operations have an opportunity to engage with various City departments through a dedicated program aimed at educating them on local government functions.

Public comments for Realize Las Cruces will be accepted on September 10, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the East Mesa Public Safety Complex, Main Conference Room located at 550 N Sonoma Ranch Blvd.

Furthermore, residents can learn financial management skills through workshops hosted by the City of Las Cruces in collaboration with United Way of Southwest New Mexico.

Lastly, The OIR Group will hold a community outreach meeting on Monday, August 26, 2024. This firm was hired by the City in 2021 to audit the police department.

Community Engagement is also facilitating programs for high school students to gain knowledge about local government operations and available resources aimed at improving community welfare.
