Las Cruces hosts seminar series to educate residents about city operations

The City of Las Cruces invites residents to participate in the “Know Your City Seminar Series,” aimed at providing insights into various aspects of the city. The series will run until November 13, 2024.

Seminars are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays in the City Council Chambers, except for the October 23, 2024 Utilities Open House session, which will be held at Las Cruces Utilities, located at 680 N. Motel Boulevard.

No registration is required for these free sessions. Attendees can choose specific sessions to attend and those who participate in all sessions will receive recognition from the City Council.

In related news, the Art Bus Shelter art exhibit is seeking artists to feature their work at one of six Las Cruces bus shelters. Applications are currently open.

The City recently hosted an open house for the Griggs Walnut Ground Water Plume Superfund on September 19, 2024, at 153 N. Cottonwood St., near Griggs intersection.

Residents are also encouraged to provide input on the University Avenue corridor study, which covers the area from I-10 to I-25.

A multi-day workshop focused on envisioning future designs for the El Paseo and S. Solano MRA area is upcoming. Details on dates and participation opportunities will be provided soon.

The Housing & Neighborhood Services section has prepared a report detailing activities under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME).

High school students interested in learning about city operations can attend sessions designed to explain how various departments impact daily life.

Public comments for Realize Las Cruces were invited on September 10, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at East Mesa Public Safety Complex’s Main Conference Room located at 550 N Sonoma Ranch Blvd.

Additionally, financial literacy workshops conducted by the City of Las Cruces and United Way of Southwest New Mexico will cover budgeting skills among other topics.

The OIR Group, hired by the city in 2021 to audit the police department, will host a community outreach meeting on August 26, 2024.

Community Engagement continues its program for high school students aimed at providing knowledge about local government functions and available resources aimed at community improvement.
