The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Program (KLCB), is joining forces with Keep Doña Ana County Beautiful, Town of Mesilla, SCSWA, and NMDOT to provide open top trash containers for public use. These containers will be available from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, October 12.
Residents can dispose of household trash at various locations including Valley View Park, Tony Gomez Park, Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, Apodaca Park, Henry R. Benavidez Center, Young Park, East Mesa Recreation Center, Radium Spring Community Center, and others. The sites will be monitored to ensure proper usage and residents are required to unload their items themselves. Roll-offs will remain available until they reach capacity.
However, certain items are prohibited from being disposed of in these containers as per section 20.9.8.8 NMAC of the New Mexico Environmental Protection regulations. These include medical waste, hot ashes or coals, tires or vehicle parts (including car batteries), fluorescent light bulbs, large yard waste like stumps or trunks, concrete or rocks, toxic materials, construction materials, refrigerators containing refrigerant, and animal carcasses.
For further details about the program or container usage guidelines, individuals can contact the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Program at 575/528-4506 or via email at [email protected].
