The Lush and Lean program is offering a series of workshops aimed at helping residents manage water resources effectively through gardening and landscaping. These workshops, hosted by the Water Conservation Program, are free and open to the public.

The sessions will be held at Branigan Memorial Library's Roadrunner Room, located at 200 E. Picacho Avenue. They are scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on select Thursdays.

On October 3, Phillip Lujan, Ph.D., an Extension Plant Pathologist from NMSU, will discuss "Common Plant Diseases" and how plants contract diseases. Leslie Beck, Ph.D., an Extension Weed Specialist from NMSU, will present "Weeds: Best Practices for Fall/Winter" on October 10, focusing on using biology for weed control.

David Cristiani, owner of Quercus, will lead a session titled "Coverage: Rethink the Ground" on October 17 to guide participants in creating appealing gardens suited for arid regions. On October 24, Jackye Meinecke, former owner of Enchanted Gardens, will present "Plan Now for Spring Greens and Wildflowers," which covers starting herbs and greens for colder months.

Finally, Gertrud Konings, Ph.D., a retired biology professor, will discuss "Cacti and Other Succulents for Your Garden" on November 7. This session will explore why these plants are appreciated globally.

For more information about the Lush and Lean workshops or other community events such as the Peachtree Canyon Apartments groundbreaking ceremony or Pumpkin Palooza at Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, residents can visit local announcements or contact city offices.
