The City of Las Cruces will initiate construction on the Peachtree Canyon Apartments, a 144-unit affordable housing project located on the East Mesa. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the site near Peachtree Hills and Jornada Road.

Natalie Green, the City's Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Administrator, stated, "Together, we are building a brighter future and addressing the affordable housing needs of our community. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with you."

Isidoro Hernandez, Executive Director/CEO of Housing New Mexico, added that "Peachtree Canyon is a much-needed development in Las Cruces, and we look forward to the moment families are able to call this community their home." He expressed appreciation for all partners involved in creating housing across the state.

The development receives partial funding from a $23 million General Obligation Bond approved by voters in 2022. Additional support comes from partnerships involving the New Mexico Housing and Community Development Corporation, Thomas Development Group, City of Las Cruces, Housing New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority, and Dona Ana County.

The total cost for developing Peachtree Canyon Apartments is estimated at $40,834,966. Construction is expected to commence in November with an anticipated completion date set for January 2026.

The apartment complex will feature 72 one-bedroom units, 60 two-bedroom units, and 12 three-bedroom units. Planned amenities include pickleball courts, a swimming pool, age-appropriate playgrounds and a community building.
