The Las Cruces Police Department is currently seeking applicants for a new park ranger position. This role aims to protect, maintain, and enhance the safety and experience at city parks. The city plans to hire three full-time park rangers, with the goal of having them trained and ready for duty by early 2025.
The park ranger position is newly created within the city, focusing on creating a welcoming and secure environment for park-goers. While their primary responsibility will be patrolling neighborhood parks, rangers will also oversee city recreational facilities and provide educational opportunities.
Key duties of park rangers include performing visual surveillance of parks to ensure proper use, assisting in preventing vandalism and other unacceptable behavior, maintaining records, reporting safety concerns to supervisors, writing citations when necessary, serving as a resource for visitors, participating in educational outreach, and conducting recreational programs for the community.
Park rangers will receive training at an academy and collaborate closely with patrol officers, traffic officers, and personnel from the Parks and Recreation Department. The position offers an hourly wage of $18.07 along with a generous benefits package from the city.
Interested candidates can find applications on the city's website. All completed applications must be submitted by November 4, 2024.
