In observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, most City of Las Cruces offices will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2024. Despite these closures, all emergency services, including police and fire departments, will continue to operate as usual.

The list of city offices and facilities that will be closed includes the A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven, Castaneda Service Center (Parks & Recreation Administration Offices), City Hall, East Mesa Recreation Center, Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, Youth Development & Diversion Learning Center, and the Las Cruces Museum System. The museums affected are the Branigan Cultural Center, the Museum of Art, Museum of Nature and Science, and the Railroad Museum. Additionally, Las Cruces Public Libraries such as Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and branch libraries at Munson Center and Sage Café will not be open. Other closures include the Rio Grande Theatre and all Senior Programs facilities and services. The South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices will also be closed.

However, certain services will remain operational with their regular hours on Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Solid waste collection for residential and commercial customers scheduled for service on Monday will proceed as planned. The Foothills Landfill located at 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Boulevard will maintain its usual operating hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-A-Ride services will function with their regular service levels; all city transit facilities are set to open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Furthermore, South Central Solid Waste scheduled curbside collection services along with Transfer Station at 2865 W. Amador Ave., and Corralitos Landfill will adhere to their standard hours of operation.

Recreational facilities like Meerscheidt Recreation Center will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., hosting Youth Basketball League games between 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., while Las Cruces Natatorium and Regional Aquatic Center are scheduled to operate from 7:30 a.m. until noon.
