Film screening on John Lewis' legacy scheduled for October

Las Cruces Public Libraries, in collaboration with the New Mexico State University Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity, is organizing a film screening and discussion focused on the life and contributions of John Lewis. The event will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, in the Roadrunner Room at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library located at 200 E. Picacho Ave.

John Lewis was a notable politician and civil rights activist who passed away in July 2020 at the age of 80. He was recognized for his long-standing commitment to social activism and legislative efforts concerning civil rights, voting rights, gun control, healthcare reform, and immigration.

The film to be shown was released in 2020 and provides insight into Lewis's impactful career. Those requiring disability accommodations are advised to contact the library at (575) 528-4102 no later than 48 hours before the event.
