The Las Cruces Veterans Day Parade, a community event organized by volunteers since 1995, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 9, 2024. The parade aims to honor and support local veterans. Residents are encouraged to either participate in the parade or attend as spectators.
The City of Las Cruces has also announced that the minimum wage will increase effective January 1, 2025, in accordance with the Las Cruces Municipal Code (LCMC).
Additionally, several other community events and initiatives are underway. The Lush and Lean program continues to assist residents in managing water resources effectively through sustainable gardening practices. The groundbreaking ceremony for Peachtree Canyon Apartments, a new affordable housing development consisting of 144 units, took place on October 10, 2024.
Pumpkin Palooza returned to the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center on October 5, 2024. In addition, the city is hosting a "Know Your City Seminar Series" for residents interested in learning more about local governance.
Local artists have an opportunity to showcase their work at bus shelters across Las Cruces through the Art Bus Shelter art exhibit. Applications are currently being accepted.
Recently, an open house was held for the Griggs Walnut Ground Water Plume Superfund site on September 19, 2024. The city is also seeking public input for a corridor study on University Avenue between I-10 and I-25.
Furthermore, a multi-day workshop focused on future design plans for the El Paseo and S. Solano MRA area is planned.
Lastly, the City of Las Cruces Housing & Neighborhood Services section has prepared a report detailing activities related to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME).
