City Councilors in Las Cruces have approved an amendment to a contract with Axon Enterprises Inc., increasing the budget by $446,625. This additional funding will be used to acquire more body-worn cameras, storage capacity, and licensing for the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD). The updated contract now totals $2,324,799 and is set to expire on November 15, 2025.

LCPD officers are required to use body-worn cameras during interactions with the public, and the footage must be stored for at least 120 days. A significant portion of the contract's budget is allocated for storage capacities. The department has been using these cameras since 2014 under a five-year agreement that began in November 2020.

In addition to this resolution, City Councilors approved increases in four other contracts: $550,000 for paint and bodywork services; $530,000 for light-duty automobile and truck parts and labor; $490,000 for medium-duty vehicle parts and labor services; and $1,325,000 for heavy-duty vehicle parts and labor services.

The council also accepted a $175,000 grant from the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Que Linda Program. This new beautification initiative supports local efforts such as litter abatement teams and school-wide cleanup days under the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful program.

Residents can view Monday's City Council meeting on the City's YouTube Channel. The next work session is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12th at 1 p.m., due to the Veterans' Day holiday on November 11th.
