The Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is hosting an ESL Film Club to support the local community in learning English. The club will feature films based on plays by Latino authors, presented in English with Spanish subtitles. The upcoming session is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
The film selected for this event is "In the Heights," which has a PG-13 rating and runs for 142 minutes. It celebrates the diverse Latino community of Washington Heights in New York City. To aid pronunciation practice, the film will be paused periodically for group reading of scenes displayed on screen.
Studies indicate that ESL students experience a 17% improvement in comprehension when using subtitles during their learning process.
