Las Cruces Public Libraries are collecting new or gently used items for local shelters until December 21, 2024. Over the past four years, the Mitten Tree project has collected more than 2,000 donations to assist those in need.

Patrons are encouraged by library staff to donate items such as hats, mittens, scarves, socks, jackets, coats, sweaters, blankets, unopened toiletries, and beauty products suitable for children, teens, and adults. Donations can be placed on the tree at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Branch or included in festive displays at the Sage and Munson Branches. Socks and underwear are among the most requested items by shelters.

The donated items will be given to La Casa, Gospel Rescue Mission, Community of Hope, and other community partners after the collection period ends on December 20.

For more information about the project or how to participate, Elizabeth Puckett can be contacted at (575) 777-0874 or via email.

The City of Las Cruces provides various community services and supports residents through workforce development programs. Additionally, several city events are planned throughout December.
