The Las Cruces Police Department is set to graduate six cadets from its 54th Academy on Friday, December 20. The ceremony will occur at 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Las Cruces City Hall, located at 700 N. Main St. Attendance is restricted to the cadets, their families, police officials, and invited guests.

Among the graduates, five will join the Las Cruces Police Department as officer-trainees, while one will begin his career with the New Mexico State University Police Department. The graduating class comprises Vincent Montoya, Veridiana Porras, Juan Prieto, Alan Ramirez, Eric Reynolds, and Jannette Soto. Notably, Montoya is set to work for the NMSU Police Department.

These six graduates have completed a 24-week state-certified academy and passed comprehensive exams that qualify them for New Mexico peace officer certification. The training provided by LCPD surpasses the standards set by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. The academy offered 1,164 accredited hours of law enforcement education and training; approximately 60 percent was classroom instruction while about 40 percent involved field training in and around Las Cruces.

Following their graduation from the academy, LCPD graduates will be paired with experienced field training officers for an additional 14 weeks of instruction across all three patrol shifts.

The Las Cruces Police Department plans to commence its 55th Academy in spring 2025. Individuals interested in learning more about the Academy can visit CLCPD.com.
