Las Cruces offers winter camp for young children during school break

The Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department is organizing a winter break camp for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The camp will offer indoor and outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and active games.

The camp will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., starting on December 23. It will be held on December 23, 24, 27, 30, 31, January 2, and January 3. There will be no camp on December 25-26 or January 1.

The cost of the camp is $20 per child, payable at registration. Breakfast and lunch are included daily. Children should bring a reusable water bottle as well as a pillow and blanket for rest-time.

There are two locations available for the camp: Meerscheidt Recreation Center at 1600 E. Hadley Ave., and the WIA Building at 340 N. Reymond St.

Registration begins on Monday, December 9, and continues until all spots are filled. Registration can be completed online via the Out-of-School Time link or in-person during regular business hours at several locations:

- Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Office at 1501 E. Hadley Ave., open from Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

- Meerscheidt Recreation Center at the same address is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

- Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center located at 1401 E. Hadley Ave., open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

- Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center at 304 W. Bell Ave., open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, interested parties can contact Out-of-School Time Programs at (575) 541-2610.
