The City of Las Cruces is embarking on a plan to rejuvenate the neighborhoods surrounding El Paseo and S Solano corridors, situated between Lohman and University Avenues. This initiative aims to transform these areas into vibrant, pedestrian-friendly communities with a focus on sustainable development and equitable growth.

The project's objectives extend beyond commercial and retail revitalization. It includes a comprehensive approach to urban renewal, emphasizing infrastructure improvement, environmental sustainability, social equity, historic preservation, public safety, and health.

City officials are seeking community input on projects and programs that could significantly impact the Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA). Residents are encouraged to participate in a survey available in English or Spanish.

"The project represents a pivotal opportunity to transform these sections of our city," said city officials. "Our goals extend beyond revitalizing commercial and retail areas; they encompass a holistic approach to urban renewal."

Additionally, the City of Las Cruces offers workforce development programs to assist residents in achieving career goals through skills training and job placement.

In other news, the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will occur from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at Plaza de Las Cruces downtown. The city advises residents to stay safe this winter by scheduling Pilot Relight and Safety Checks ahead of cold weather.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful program will be held inside the Triviz/I-25 tunnel to showcase a newly completed mural. In observance of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, most city offices will close except for emergency services like police and fire departments.

The minimum wage in Las Cruces will increase effective January 1, 2025, per the Las Cruces Municipal Code (LCMC). The Lush and Lean program continues to help residents use limited water resources wisely by developing water-efficient gardens and landscapes.

Finally, residents are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Peachtree Canyon Apartments on October 10, 2024. This new development will offer 144 units of affordable housing at the corner of Peachtree Hills.
